CLUTTER

Clutter is filling my mind.  Thoughts, ideas, worries.  Who is doing what, what is doing who, blogging, chatting, instagram-ing, tweeting, documenting, logging.  What gives.   Last night we went to a friend's house for dinner.  The children were missing.  They were very quiet.  I went to peek.  I found them, dutifully marching from the bookshelf to the crib, bookshelf to crib.  When they finally looked up, the blonde one exclaimed, "It is filled with so much things, you cannot even imagine".
The thing is, son, I can.  I can imagine.

MEN WHO INSPIRE JK

Recently I have been forced to think long and hard about things that I represent, the things I respect, and my ideals in general.  There are forks in the road of my life, and I am making a lot of big choices at present.  I have been thinking a lot about my influences, and the kind of person that I want to be.  I thought it would be nice to take a moment to honor a few great men I look up to.  I present four.

HERMAN WOUK
A fine writer and a great gentleman.  A man who says that perfect happiness is ... Monogamy!?  I used a quote from Wouk in my wedding vows 5 years ago. It had to do with the idea of life being short and doing what you love.  This interview from Vanity Fair is wonderful.

ANDY KAMM
My dad.  Such a fine fellow.  A man who sacrificed many opportunities to be home at 5:15pm every night of the week to be with his family.  When I was a kid I asked him if we were rich, he said "yes, we are rich in love."   Recently I went on a trip.  He slipped this note into my bag.  He is always thinking about staying heathy... in the mind and body.

DANE REYNOLDS
Dane is a surfer.  Every rad guy I know gets a semi for him.  He is the counter culture of pro-surfing.  He is not into being corporate.  He is an artist.  He likes beer and soup.  He is a reluctant self promoter, because he thinks it is creepy.  I like him.  You should watch him surf.

LUKE BROWER
My partner in crime.  He is not afraid to do what what his inner-most voice tells him.  He is not afraid to try new things.  He is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in.  He lives simply.  He plays ragtime with my dad.  He is the most patient person I have ever met.  I wish I could be more like him.

2:31 am

I have no idea why I am awake right now.  My brain feels like it is humming.  I think it is some kind of wave. I just had so many ideas that I had do scratch them down on a paper, which I already did, like a chicken.   I opened my computer to look something up, and I got more excited.  My elbow is really twitching right now.  Like a spasm or something.  Is that normal with waves of inspiration in the dark of night?
Here are the images that made me excited and happy.

GRANDMA DO NOT READ THIS

Warning:  Grandma do not read this post.  Seriously, It is full of foul foul language.

About 8 years ago I was learning to surf.  I was out early one morning at County Line with my surf coach, who is now my husband, Luke.   When we got out of the water this particular day, and there was a note on the drivers side door of the car.  This note is one I will never ever forget.  It was audacious, misspelled, and totally awesome.  I found it yesterday while looking for an old drawing.  I never called.
Should I have?

HEATHER TAYLOR

Business woman, wife, chef, art gallerist, and reigning queen of LA fashion.  If she looks like she can out-smart you, she can.  Maybe it is all that tortoise shell armor that makes her so damn formidable.  Watch for her in Forbes, 2015.  Wearing Jesse Kamm Tunic// FW2008.
